A concerned youth coalition has while frowning at the rejection of the coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, tasked opposition leaders to unite and oust President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential elections, to save Nigeria from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group expressed this at press conference held at the Arewa House in Kaduna on Friday April 18, 2025.
“Forming a unified opposition coalition is not just a strategy; it is a necessity and compulsory for any patriotic Nigerian irrespective of his political affiliation.
“Neither H.E. Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Peter Obi (LP), nor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (NNPP) has the individual political weight or national spread now to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) alone.
“Yet combined, the three major opposition parties secured two times the votes of PBAT in the 2023 General Elections. Imagine if they come together in the upcoming 2027 General Elections!” They said.
Reading the text of the briefing, Lead Convener Concerned Youth Coalition, Adam A. Umar said that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) decision on rejection of the coalition to form a formidable force is disappointing.
“Nigerians to express our serious shock, disappointment and concern over the recent decision by the PDP Governors’ Forum led by the Chairman H.E. Bala Muhammad (The Executive Governor of Bauchi State) at Oyo State, on Monday (14th April, 2025), to rule out the ongoing coalition plans with other political parties ahead of the upcoming 2027 General Elections.
“This decision completely contradicts the growing advocacy for political unity and strategic alliances which is necessary to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT), led disastrous administration,” they said.
The group warned Nigerians that if they fail to unite, they are handling Tinubu a second term win on a platter.
“Recall that it is the same coalition strategy that brought the APC Government to power in the 2015 General Elections, hence what the opposition parties must now adopt to take back Nigeria to its lost glory, prosperity, and stability,” they added.
On the implications of PDP Governors Decision, they said that by rejecting coalition talks and options, the PDP Governors are clearly strengthening President Tinubu’s re-election bid in the upcoming 2027 General Elections.
“This decision would confirm the alleged collaboration with the ruling APC and PBAT, sabotaging efforts to rescue Nigeria from its current economic instability, currency devaluation, insecurity, nepotism, and rising unemployment rates,” they lamented.
They therefore, strongly urged the PDP Governors to immediately reconsider their decision and prioritize the interests of Nigerians over personal or sectional interests.
“Otherwise, Nigerians youths will find leaders who prioritize their interest in the upcoming 2027 General Elections as we are now wiser than ever.
“We believe that:-Unity is strength: A unified opposition can pool resources, expertise, and support to challenge the APC’s grip on power,” they argued.
They explained that coalition building is key: strategic alliances can help the opposition tap into new voter bases, build a broader coalition, and increase its chances of winning.
“Nigeria’s future is at stake: The 2027 elections present an opportunity for Nigerians to chart a new course; we cannot afford to miss it due to petty squabbles, power plays and selfish interests,” they stressed.
They therefore, demanded the immediate reversal of the decision and prioritize Nigeria’s survival over personal ambitions.
“Begin genuine coalition talks with LP, NNPP, SDP and other opposition forces.
“Stop acting like a compromised opposition to contradicts the alleged collaboration with the ruling APC and PBAT administration as Nigerian youths are closely monitoring,” they said.
While appealing to all stakeholders, including H.E. Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Nasir el-Rufai, and all opposition leaders, to continue advocating for unity and coalition building to rescue this country from collapsing, they advocated prioritizing youth mentorship and involvement in all political processes.
“Together, we can build a stronger, more united opposition that can take on power from the sinking APC and President Tinubu at the upcoming 2027 General Elections,” they assured.
