Following the directives handed down by Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions in Kaduna State (JUTIKS) the College of Education Academic Staff Union ( COEASU) Gidanwaya Chapter has suspended the indefinite strike action embarked upon on September 30, 2025.

This was made known in a statement signed by COEASU Gidanwaya Chapter. Chairman, Comrade Christopher Nuhu Yerima, PhD , dated October 20, 2025.

“As you are aware, our chapter union embarked on an indefinite strike action on September 30th, 2025, in accordance with the directives of the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions in Kaduna State (JUTIKS).

“This action was necessitated by the government’s failure to honor and implement the agreements reached on August 18, 2025, regarding the implementation of CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure and the retirement age of 65 for non-academic staff.

“We are pleased to announce that following a meeting with His Excellency Governor Uba Sani on Friday, October 17th 2025, the government has committed to implementing 70% of the COMPCASS and CONTEDISS salary structure with effect from October. Additionally, the government has agreed to implement the 65-year retirement age for non-academic staff.

“In line with JUTIKS’ directives and the resolutions of our chapter Congress held on Monday, October 20, 2025, the College of Education Academic Staff Union ( COEASU ) Gidanwaya Chapter hereby announces the suspension of the indefinite strike action , effective Monday , October 20, 2025,” it said.

The statement advised members are to resume work accordingly.

“We appreciate the unwavering support and solidarity demonstrated by members during the strike action. Rest assured, our union remains committed to ensuring the full implementation of the agreement reached.

“Thank you for your understanding.

“Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta,” the statement said.
