In a major political realignment, Abdulaziz Musa Alhassan, the Personal Assistant to the Minister of Environment, has resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP)
The resignation, confirmed in a letter addressed to his ward chairman, marks a notable departure from the APC, with sources citing “irreconcilable political differences” as the reason for his exit.
Alhassan’s move is seen as a boost to el-Rufai’s growing influence within the SDP, fueling speculation of a major opposition realignment ahead of future elections.
Political analysts suggest this defection could signal wider discontent within the APC, particularly among aides and mid-level officials. Neither the Ministry of Environment nor the SDP has issued an official statement, but insiders confirm Alhassan’s integration into the SDP’s strategic framework.
